Buddhism ain't about praying to god or buddha for protection and prosperity. It is a misconception even for me because I use to tell people I am a buddhist, but honestly I know nothing about the actual teachings. Buddhism actually teaches people to keep their mind calm at all times, empty and nothingness. It is from this state we achieve the peace of mind we all want. Everything we want to gain is of greed, and from this ill thought we arrive at many unwanted situations.
3 months ago I joined a retreat at the same monastery, learnt a lot about the teachings, came back to my normal life trying to use the teachings in daily life, but it didn't take too long before the hectic life catch up and made me forget about them. It is by coming to the monastery and attending dharma talks that reminds me of the teachings.
Had a small chat with the venerable, she actually described my situation clearly. I am actually stressed out by doing 2 intense summer schools. Summer is actually allocated for uni students to rest themselves thoroughly. For me 3 weeks of holidays are not enough to unwind my mind, hence I tend to lose focus easily whenever I study. Her advice? I need holidays man, SERIOUSLY. lol.
4 more days to the finals, 2 weeks of break and another new semester. I think I might toast a fuse in my brain.
