Can you spot me in the pict above? I’m still with my nerdy hairstyle then (not that I look any better now).
That’s me. I looked smart with that red tie eh?
I just somehow blurted out the idea to Jaric and Lee Voon when we were chatting in Metro Driving Academy’s canteen. We were classmates 5 years ago and Lee Voon was our ex-class monitor. They accepted my idea so quick that Lee Voon just volunteered right away to make the calls since she still keep a list of our contact numbers. We set our gathering on the 27th of January, but we have yet to find a suitable venue then.
After calling Wei Dong, he just suggested we have our gathering in his father’s restaurant. After setting the venue, we were left with one final task – to inform as many as we could. Apart from calling, testimonials were posted on friendster profiles and a chain sms was sent. Lee Voon and Wei Dong even went to invite our ex-teachers (I should have join you but I have work that day…Anyways, thank you both so much for making the most effort).
Out of 35, only 25 managed to attend the gathering. 4 out of the missing 10 had trouble arranging their schedules, while we had totally lost contact with the other 6. Till now I’m still looking for traces of them. Of them 6, I really wanted to find out how Ming Yee and Shinro are doing.
Only 2 of our teachers attended the gathering – Madam Tan (our ex-class teacher) and Cikgu Lay (our ex-BM teacher).
Both have been doing well over the years, while Madam Tan had just been promoted to the post of vice-principal. I still remember Cikgu Lay as the only teacher in my life who was the closest to me. She was the best BM teacher ever (who taught me to write awesome BM essays then) and always took good care of me over my primary school years.
What shocked me the most was they failed to recognize me, not until I told them who I was. The look on their faces after that was priceless…I have changed too much. I don’t really know how much, but it was much enough for Madam Tan to keep on repeating the whole night.
She claimed I used to be a skinny and obedient boy who looked very fragile and needed protection 24/7. Now I had grown into someone who can protect others instead. She even said I looked matured now. The statement was unclear to me until I met Misky and she rephrased it: “ni mei you yi qian jiang leng zai liao”.
The statement from Misky was enough to pierce a hole through my heart and make it bleed for days.
Even after 5 years, the 25 of us managed to click like old times, talking bout the old times, even bringing back out some old jokes we used to make when we were 6M. We joked and laughed like kids that night (seriously), and we felt like there was never 5 years between now and our primary school graduation.
I realized that even after 5 years, a part of us are still ourselves, we are still the 6M we were. 6M was the best class ever to me compared to other classes I have joined later in my life. I have to admit one thing: I really missed you guys very, very much.
Some priceless pictures:
CHS-ians.
Chen Yee. =)
The guys picturing with our teachers.
Then the girls’ turn.
We had so much fun that night. I was thinking of doing a trip sometime in the future, but hectic schedules may stand in the way already then.
Thank you guys so much for making this gathering so successful. Thank you for making me realize the existence of:
“FRIENDS FOREVER”
